Sustainability Innovation Lab meets Smart City Expo World Congress 2024

At the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) 2024, Selina Lorenz from the Sustainability Innovation Lab presented our newly developed tool to co-create innovative business models in fields such as energy, mobility, and the built environment.

The Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) 2024 took place in Barcelona, Spain. It is the world's largest and most influential event dedicated to innovation in the public sphere. This time, more than 600 international experts and a large variety of exhibitors took part.
During the Business Models and Financing for Energy Communities workshop at the SCEWC, co-organized with the ASCEND and NEUTRALPATH projects, Selina Lorenz introduced a tool developed to co-create business models. The tool enables public and private organizations to develop tailored, sustainable business models in a playful way. As part of SIL-HSG’s work in the ASCEND project, it will be further developed and tested with the other project partners. To enable the use of the tool outside of the ASCEND project, it will be made available for purchase soon.
Moreover, the goal of our session at the SCEWC was to emphasize the importance of exploring novel financing mechanisms for renewable energy and sustainable mobility projects to ensure that these solutions are scalable without public subsidies. The inputs from the subsequent discussion with the experts present in the room will be incorporated into our work in the ASCEND project.
