WEF Annual Meeting 2024: Amazônia and beyond
In January 2024 SIL’s Dr. Mônica Barroso attended a discussion panel for a selected audience about the role of nature in addressing climate change at the House of Switzerland at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024.
The event was promoted by Swissnex in Brazil, ETH Zurich, and the University of Zurich, aiming to shed light on the role that protecting and conserving forests, particularly the Amazon rainforest, plays in achieving our climate goals.
The panel discussion included local voices from Brazil combined with the most recent international scientific findings. Keynote speakers included Martina Hirayama (State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, Switzerland), Marina Silva (Minister for the Environment and Climate Change, Brazil), Luís Roberto Barroso (President of the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil), Michael Schaepman (Professor of Remote Sensing and President, University of Zurich).
